Bahia is a northeastern state of Brazil, situated along the Atlantic coast. It is famous for being the birthplace of samba and its warm and vibrant Afro-Brazilian culture.
This trip takes you to a surf school in Bahia, set along 7kms of pristine private beach and 40kms from the capital city, Salvador. The school is nestled perfectly in a protected environmental area called ‘Busca Vida’. This unique location can only be accessed by school residents and is in front of one of the best reef breaks of the entire north coast, with perfect waves on the south swell days.
Run by Remarkable Transformer and former professional surfer Beto Dias, the surf school’s curriculum is based on the Australian coaching programme, which involves beginning with basic safety rules, followed by an in-depth introduction to all the elements required for surfing: the ocean, equipment, techniques and the environment. After your first class, you will be assessed, and then a tailored programme is assigned to you according to your level and competency. Navigating the waves is a complex art that has challenged humans for hundreds of years. Still, the exploration of the ocean and interaction with nature makes it a purposeful and rewarding journey.
The week-long programme consists of two hours of surf classes per day and a yoga class (more are optional), some of which may take you to surrounding beaches. Hence, you can get out and about and explore more of Bahia’s coastline during your stay. And for those who are very dedicated to their studies, the school offers support tools and extracurricular activities to further your surfing skills, such as skating, specific gym exercises, Yoga, Pilates, and stand-up paddle boarding, along with an in-house physiotherapist service. These activities have been selected purposely to strengthen the body’s performance on the waves. They can be added to your programme depending on your requirements. Alternatively, there are hammocks dotted around the grounds of the school if you’re wiped out after your lessons! Perfect for resting the body, with a tasty homemade acai bowl in hand.
The school welcomes beginner and intermediate surfers, as programmes are tailored to each individual’s levels and needs.
