ITINERARY
Day 1
Arrival in Tanzania
The Adventure Begins
Your Kilimanjaro adventure begins the moment you land at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha. Our team will greet you and transfer you to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi, where you can relax after your flight and prepare for the journey ahead.

Take time to settle in and explore your surroundings, whether it's the bustling town of Moshi or the quiet charm of Arusha.

In the evening, you’ll gather with your guide and fellow trekkers for a welcome dinner, where you’ll receive a detailed briefing about the trek and a thorough kit check (you will be able to rent personal gear at this time). This is your opportunity to meet the team, ask any questions, and begin getting excited for the days ahead.

Overnight at hotel in Arusha or Moshi.
Day 2
Trek to Machame Camp
Begin Your Ascent
After a hearty breakfast, you’ll be driven to Machame Gate (1,800m), the entry point to Kilimanjaro National Park and the official start of your trek.

The adventure begins with a 5-7 hour hike through the lush, dense rainforest, where you’ll likely spot blue monkeys, birds, and vibrant plant life. The trail is well-marked but often damp and muddy, so your guide will offer tips for navigating the terrain. As you ascend, the sounds of the forest accompany you, providing a serene yet adventurous atmosphere.

By the time you reach Machame Camp (2,835m), you’ll have already experienced one of the most enchanting environments Kilimanjaro has to offer.

Overnight at Machame Camp (2,835m).
Day 3
Ascend to Shira Camp
Into the Moorlands
After a good breakfast at camp, you’ll begin today’s trek into Kilimanjaro’s moorland zone. The change in landscape is immediate and striking, with low-lying shrubs and unique vegetation like giant heathers replacing the rainforest.

The 4-6 hour trek is steeper today, but as you gain altitude, the expansive views over the Shira Plateau reward every step. Keep an eye out for exotic plants like the giant lobelia, which thrive in this rugged environment.

Upon arriving at Shira Camp (3,750m), you’ll be greeted by breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. After settling in, you’ll enjoy an evening at camp, where the temperature starts to drop, giving you a taste of the higher altitudes to come.

Overnight at Shira Camp (3,750m).
Day 4
Trek High to Lava Tower
Acclimatization Day
Today is a crucial day for acclimatization, designed to help your body adjust to the increasing altitude.

After breakfast, you’ll embark on a 6-8 hour trek that takes you first to Lava Tower (4,600m), a dramatic rock formation that rises high above the surrounding landscape. The trek to Lava Tower is challenging due to the altitude, but the views of the rugged terrain make it unforgettable.

After a rest and lunch at Lava Tower, you’ll descend into the scenic Barranco Valley, where the air is thicker and the vegetation more lush. This “climb high, sleep low” strategy is one of the best ways to prepare your body for the altitude ahead.

After arriving at Barranco Camp (3,960m), the evening is spent relaxing and soaking in the views of the impressive Barranco Wall, which you’ll conquer tomorrow.

Overnight at Barranco Camp (3,960m).
Day 5
Barranco to Karanga Camp
The Barranco Wall Challenge
The day begins with an exhilarating challenge: scaling the Barranco Wall. Though it looks intimidating, this 257-meter-high rock face is more of a scramble than a technical climb, and your guides will ensure you navigate it safely. As you ascend, the views only get better, with panoramic vistas of the Barranco Valley and the landscape below.

After conquering the wall, the trail eases, leading you across rolling ridges and valleys towards Karanga Camp (4,035m). The 4-5 hour trek offers plenty of photo opportunities, with stunning views and unique geological formations.

Once you arrive at Karanga Camp, you’ll have time to rest, explore the surrounding area, and enjoy a hot dinner as the temperature drops in the evening.

Overnight at Karanga Camp (4,035m).
Day 6
Karanga to Barafu Camp
Pre-Summit Preparation
Today’s trek takes you through the high alpine desert to Barafu Camp (4,640m), the base camp for your summit attempt. The 3-4 hour trek is short but steep, with the barren landscape and thin air making the hike challenging. Upon reaching Barafu, you’ll rest, hydrate, and prepare for the summit push.

After arriving at camp, you’ll spend the evening relaxing and preparing for the midnight summit attempt.

Overnight at Barafu Camp (4,640m) or Kosovo Camp* (4,800m).

*Optional Upgrade: Stay at Kosovo Camp (4,800m), located just above Barafu Camp. This option is highly recommended for several reasons: it offers a quieter, more secluded camp, a shorter ascent to the summit on summit night, and better positioning for the final push to Uhuru Peak. The extra 160 meters make a big difference on summit day, giving you a head start and reducing fatigue.
Day 7
Summit Day
Reach the Roof of Africa
The most exciting and challenging day of your trek begins around midnight. After a light snack, you’ll set out under a sky filled with stars, following the steep path up to Stella Point (5,730m).

The 6-8 hour climb to the summit is mentally and physically demanding, but with each step, you draw closer to your goal. Upon reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa, the sense of accomplishment is overwhelming. The sunrise from the summit is an awe-inspiring sight, with sweeping views over the plains and glaciers below.

After taking in the moment and snapping your summit photos, you’ll begin the long descent back to Barafu/Kosovo Camp for a brief rest. From there, you’ll continue down to Mweka Camp (3,100m), where you’ll spend the night, exhausted but exhilarated after your incredible achievement.

Overnight at Mweka Camp (3,100m).
Day 8
Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
Return to Arusha/Moshi
After a well-deserved night’s rest, you’ll enjoy breakfast at Mweka Camp before making your final descent through the rainforest to Mweka Gate (1,640m). The trek takes about 3-4 hours, and the lush surroundings offer a peaceful end to your Kilimanjaro adventure.

At the gate, you’ll receive your summit certificates, marking your incredible achievement. From there, you’ll be transferred back to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi for a hot shower and some much-needed relaxation.

In the evening, you’ll gather with your team for a celebratory farewell dinner, where you can reflect on the unforgettable journey you’ve just completed.

Overnight at hotel in Arusha or Moshi.
Day 9
Departure Day
Until Next Time
After breakfast at your hotel, our team will transfer you to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward journey.

Though the trek is complete, the memories of summiting Africa’s tallest peak and the camaraderie shared with your fellow climbers will last a lifetime.

From the first conversation that I had with Sean the confidence I got made it look doable. Once the sign in was done and we were onboard the guidance on training and fitness, the expertise, the knowledge sharing, the coaching, the prep training’s, the local hikes, and the overall mental prep was like no other. Seans expertise was by our side each step of the way. When in the mountains the service and the hand holding from the local support team was at a totally different level.
